Kia Ora and Welcome to the people, planet and consumption research project.

I have created this website as a way to connect, encourage, interact and engage with potential research participants as well as share the findings and results of my research project.

I live in Hamilton, NZ, and I am undertaking a PhD through the University of Western Sydney.  In 2010 after I completed my Masters research in the Waikato region around the topic of sustainability and Year 9 students I realised that I still had a burning question about young people and how they view the world in response to its changing physical environment, and the actions they were taking in response to these changes.

The short version of what this research study is all about, is that...... I want to understand young peoples views and how might the awareness of environmental destruction be shifting their attitudes and actions around consumption.  I will be focusing upon the concepts of consumerism, sustainability, environmental degradation and activism through the eyes of young Kiwis' in 2015.

With local and global environmental challenges, such as climate change, global warming and water degradation  I am curious as to how young people understand meaning around their own, and others, consumption actions and values in response to ongoing ecological issues.   My aim is to explore my research questions using the notion of emergence and then build theory from the perspective of young New Zealanders (aged between 18 and 28 years).  So I really need some young New Zealanders with opinions and views on how they see the world today from an environmental and consuming point of view.
